Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist Review

Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist
Pixi says their Makeup Fixing Mist "prolongs makeup wear and keeps it from moving, melting, and settling into fine lines or pores. The rose water and green tea infused formula comforts, protects and balances skin for a fresh face. Extends and refreshes makeup, hydrates and balances. Sets makeup and adds a soft-focus finish." One of the original Pixi Skin Treats launches, the Makeup Fixing Mist contains 80ml (2.7 fl oz) of product and retails for $29.95AUD ($16USD/£16GBP). Pixi products are cruelty free. This finishing spray was made in Korea.

Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist comes in translucent pink plastic bottle topped with a spring green spray nozzle. This mechanism has given be a lot of issues, if I'm honest. This setting mist's nozzle becomes easily clogged and is difficult to fix - Pixi advises you to just run it under hot water for a few minutes, but that hasn't proved helpful for me. I've also poked around with a needle to see if I could break up any clogs, with no avail. When this product was brand new to me, it put out a nice fine mist, but now it shoots out a strong jet of product that feels unpleasant and upsets my makeup. I intend to decant it into another bottle, since this mist is pointless in it's current one. (This seems to be a common problem, according to my research). On the plus side, packaging is recyclable.

For clarity's sake, let me start off by saying that I'll be reviewing this setting spray as if the packaging wasn't malfunctioning. Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist is a dual phase mist that's meant to be shaken before use and sprayed on before, during, or after applying makeup - as a prep step, a setting spray, a mixing medium, or a refreshing mist. I've tested Makeup Fixing Mist for all four uses, and I think it performs decently well at all of them!

I'll combine my opinions on the prep and refresh steps - it's nice. Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist feels good on the skin, it's cool and refreshing and leaves the skin looking and feeling just a bit more hydrated. Not revolutionary, by any means, but nice. This setting spray has a soft rosy scent that reminds me a lot of my mum - so it's extra comforting!

As a setting spray, my opinions are a little more varied. I don't feel like Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist does anything to extend the wear of my makeup. On the other hand, it's excellent for melding products together, uniting liquids and powders beautifully while imparting a lovely dewiness. That ability to fuse liquids and powders makes the Makeup Fixing Mist a pretty good mixing medium for foiling pigments, intensifying shimmer shadows, or for activating cake liners. I've also become partial to spritzing some onto my foundation sponge for a more seamless blend.

Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist starts off the same as most setting sprays - water, alcohol, and polyvinyl alcohol (a glue like film forming ingredient). Following those ingredients are hydrating rosewater, glycerin, and castor oil. This setting spray is absolutely bursting with botanical extracts including chamomile, lemon balm, bamboo, and willowbark, complimented with nourishing niacinamide and soybean ferment. All of these nice ingredients likely won't have an impact on the skin since it's coming from a mist, but they're still worth mentioning.

I really wanted to love Pixi's Makeup Fixing Mist, but it's hard to love it when the packaging failed me so easily. I think the formula of this mist is quite nice, it definitely helps improve the look of my makeup, but I don't think it has an impact on longevity. I'll continue to use Makeup Fixing Mist, but I wouldn't repurchase it. I prefer Pixi's Glow Mist over this one, and consider Rose Glow Mist to be a nice middle ground. Try one of those instead.
