Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara Review (Revisited!)

Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara Review
Covergirl says "Get a blast of bold, volumizing mascara – rain or shine! LashBlast's patented volume-boosting hypoallergenic mascara formula and patent-pending brush are designed to max out each and every lash, leaving you with the ultimate big-lash look." Covergirl's Lash Blast Volume is such a classic product! It seems almost silly to write about this mascara, since I'm pretty sure everyone has tried it by now, but I wanted to try it again and update my opinion on it. This was one of the very first products I reviewed when I started my blog 7 years ago (the post remains up, despite being quite bare bones). This mascara contains 13ml (.44 fl oz) and retails for $18.95AUD. Covergirl is recently cruelty free.

Lash Blast Volume comes in a chunky, ugly, traffic cone orange tube. Just no aesthetic at all, but I feel nostalgic looking at it- this mascara was my jam when I was 18! This mascara has a massive, round, blunt brush with short plastic bristles - it set the trend for oversized mascara brushes for years to come. I've always found this brush to be quite difficult to work with on my smaller eyes, and often end up poking my eye or knocking the brush against my lash line. Many a detailed eyeshadow look has been ruined by this mascara wand over the years. This product's packaging doesn't seem to be recyclable.

Right off the bat I wasn't impressed with Covergirl's Lash Blast Volume Mascara. This mascara doesn't give me the big, thick lashes I remember - dark, dense, with no added length. Nowadays, this mascara seems to give me the opposite results - lengthened, separated lashes with no real volume to speak of. I can layer coat after coat of Lash Blast Volume without getting much fullness. I left this tube of mascara to thicken for a couple weeks, but it didn't really change anything. I've found that Lash Blast Volume holds a curl decently well, despite having a softer, less crunchy finish that most Covergirl mascaras. That soft finish on the lash leads to poor wear - this mascara flakes badly and only lasts about four or five hours for me. Normally I get extremely dependable flake and smudge free wear from Covergirl mascaras (that's why I repurchase The Super Sizer time and again). Clearly there's something about the original Lash Blast formula that just doesn't measure up to it's latter incarnations like Clump Crusher.
Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara Review
Covergirl's Lash Blast Volume is just not as good as I remember, or as good as Covergirl's other mascara offerings. It's far from the worst mascara I've ever tried, and if I had to choose an iconic drugstore mascara, I'd pick original Lash Blast over Maybelline's Great Lash any day. Seeing as that's an unlikely scenario, I don't really see any reason to buy Lash Blast Volume when Covergirl makes at least two superior mascaras. Do yourself the favor of buying Clump Crusher or The Super Sizer instead - they're two of my hands down favorite mascaras.
