Out with the Old - Early 2019 Beauty Declutter

Last week Morgan and I decided to switch our bedroom and office around. We gave everything in both rooms a thorough cleaning, and during that time I took a few minutes to sort through my makeup and decide if I really needed *all* that makeup. Turns out, I don't! I pulled 24(!) products out of my collection to toss out. Click through to read about all two dozen products (I'll try to keep it brief, full reviews linked where applicable).

Maybelline Master Fix Powder
Honestly I've never been a fan of those white HD setting powders, but I bought Maybelline's Master Fix anyway. I tend to like Maybelline's base products, so I though maybe I'd have more luck with this loose powder than others. Actually, it was worse. Maybelline's Master Fix Powder has a very dry and chalky consistency that made it really visible on the skin.

Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara*
I adored Maybelline mascaras in my teen years, but they fell out of my favor in my early twenties. All of a sudden my favorite mascaras smudged right off, so I stopped using them. I received The Falsies Push Up Drama and gave it a try - and absolutely hated it. This mascara's formula is excessively wet and thick, giving me that disgusting straight, 5-lash look. Like all other Maybelline mascaras, The Falsies Push Up Drama smears and smudges terribly on me. So bad.

Maybelline's Craving Coral Creamy Matte Lipstick is a gorgeous orange red with a lovely soft matte finish...and I just don't wear it. Ever. Nothing wrong with this lipstick, I just rarely wear reds.

NYX Gunmetal Vivid Brights Liquid Liner
I received this liquid liner in an Ipsy Bag a long time ago and only used it two or three times. I just don't have a use for a silvery grey liquid liner on a regular basis. That being said, I really liked the formula and brush applicator, so I'd definitely buy it in a more practical shade!

NYX Sculpt+Highlight Duo
I bought this liquid highlight and contour duo ages ago, and had a pretty mixed experience with it. The Sculpt shade was wonderful for me - it blended beautifully and had the perfect cool taupe-y shade that created the look of realistic shadows. The Highlight shade, however, was useless to me, as it's significantly darker than my skin tone. I scraped the sides of Sculpt years ago and just never got around to tossing it out.

NYX Corset Lip Lingerie
This is one of my most regrettable makeup purchases in a long time. I'd heard a lot of people rave about NYX' Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks, so I decided to give one a try when Priceline was running a BOGO NYX sale. I chose the shade Corset, a pink tinged taupe that swatched beautifully, but made me look dead when worn on the lips. I also didn't like the formula, which feels nice and moussey, but pills and gets patchy after just a few minutes of wear.

NYX Pops Butter Lipstick
I became obsessed with the concept of NYX' Pops Butter Lipstick when my favorite YouTuber Mary ALoveTart said it was her perfect lipstick. Mary and I have very similar coloring, so I thought Pops would flatter me as well as it flatters her. It doesn't, unfortunately, but it does look nice on me - just not nice enough for it to fall into my rotation of day-to-day lipsticks. I've had it for like four years, so I think it's time to part ways.

Marc Jacobs Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Le Marc Lipstick
I received this mini Le Marc Lipstick as a Sephora Birthday gift and I used about half of it. I loved the creamy formula, but Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a bit too cool and rosy for me.

Pür Comsetics Silhouette Lip Gloss*
This lip gloss came along with my recently decluttered Love Your Selfie 2  palette and I'd always had mixed feelings on it. I really liked the color of Silhouette, and the formula was plush and glossy, just the way I like it, but it slid around on the lips badly and usually ended up a complete mess. It really wasn't worth the fuss, so I don't want to hold on to it any longer.

Pür Cosmetics Focal Point Velvet Matte Lip Pencil*
The Focal Point Velvet Matte Lip Pencil also came with the Love Your Selfie 2 palette, but unlike the Silhouette gloss, I never really liked it. Focal Point was too cool for my skin tone, and the pencil had an unpleasant drag to it.

Stila Stingray Smudgestick Eyeliner
It seemed like everyone was using Stila's Stingray Smudgestick a few years ago, so when I needed a new black liner last year, I decided to give this iconic product a try - and I didn't like it one bit! Stingray is a soft black shade in a velvety formula that didn't really stick to my waterline well (my main use for black pencil liner). It was usable, but not a favorite by any means. The cap to this pencil liner split in several places and before I knew it it was completely dried out and unusable. This liner sat in my drawer for months for no reason, but it's finally going in the bin where it belongs.

Stila Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
Stila's Patina Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick came to me in a Mecca Beauty Loop box and I didn't even bother to swatch it, honestly. I can just tell that this shade is too cool and pinky for me. I'm going to pass this on to a better home.

Too Faced Sell Out Melted Liquid Lipstick
Too Faced's Sell Out Melted Liquid Lipstick also came to me in a Beauty Loop Box, and I did use it a few times, and liked it well enough, but not enough to keep. This shade is much more my style than the previous product, but I'm just not into the formula.

Mecca Max Day Slayer Pout Pop Lipstick
Yet another Beauty Loop lip product. I like Mecca Max's Pout Pop Lipstick formula, it's smooth, satiny, and semi-sheer, but Day Slayer is not my color at all. This bright pink lipstick is super unflattering on me, but I may end up swatching other Pout Pops in store.

Revlon Red + Wine Color Stay Lip Liners*
I received these Color Stay Lip Liners right before I moved to Australia, so I've had them quite a long time. I have used both shades a handful of times, but like I said before I just don't reach for red lip colors often.

Essence Do You Speak Love? Nail Polish
I may not reach for red lipstick often, but I do wear a lot of red nail polish. Essence's Do You Speak Love was a limited edition cranberry red polish that looked beautiful against my skin tone. I used up at least 2/3 of the bottle before it became too thick for me to use. I'd repurchase it if it was still available, but alas I'll have to search for a dupe.

Essence's Velvet Eyeshadows are very nice! This lovely taupe shade is a near dupe for Urban Decay's Tease, but with the slightest hint of a shimmer. I decided to toss it, as I just don't reach for single shadows (I did keep a few, but they're comparably unique).

Trust Fund Beauty I'm Kind of a Big Deal Nail Polish
I received this nail polish in an Ipsy Bag and I really wanted to love it, but didn't. I love Trust Fund Beauty's bitchy aesthetic, and their nail polish formula is quite nice, but I'm Kind of a Big Deal isn't really my style. I'm just not a pink kinda gal. I did manage to use at least half of the bottle, but this polish has thickened up beyond use.

Sally Hansen Hats off to Hue Nail Polish
I received Sally Hansen's Hats off to Hue from someone I don't really like, and clearly didn't know my taste in nail polish. Pastels tend to look kinda gross against my complexion, and this lilac shade was certainly not an exception.

ELF Bronzed Glow Baked Highlighter+Bronzer*
I received this baked highlight and bronzer duo in an Influenster box and I only needed to swatch it to know I'd hate it on the cheeks. I did end up using Bronzed Glow on the eyes a few times, and it looked quite soft and pretty, but honestly I have better actual eyeshadows in similar shades, so I have no reason to hold on to it.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Contour Palette
I picked up L'Oreal's Infallible Pro Contour Palette when it was a brand new product, and I ended up rarely reaching for it. Both powders in this split pan palette lacked pigment and were practically useless. I think the product looks very nice, but my praise ends there.

NARS Let's Go Crazy Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
I love a NARS lip product, but Let's Go Crazy looks crazy on me. This bright pink doesn't suit me at all, but I know the formula is excellent. I've only tried it on once, so I think it's in good enough condition to find a new home with my sister in law who loves a bright lip.

So that's my declutter! I hope this post wasn't exhausting, but I had a lot to get off my chest and out of my collection. Have you done a declutter recently? If so, let me know what you've decided to toss out.
