Out with the Old - October 2018 Empties+Where I've Been

Hey guys, I'm here with my October Empties! October was an absolutely massive empties month for me - I used up or tossed out around twenty products last month, and I'm ready to share my thoughts/mini reviews on them all. As always, reviews will be linked where applicable, and products I intend on repurchasing (or already have) will be marked with an asterisk (*).

Before I delve into my empties, I just wanted to touch on where I've been for the last three(ish) weeks. Several of you have noticed I hadn't been posting pretty much anywhere on my socials aside from the occasional insta-story and I wanted to thank those that reached out to check up on me. October was a really stressful month - about three weeks ago I discovered a significant issue in our house that needed an immediate repair. Morgan and I essentially had to pack up, move out of our house, and then back in over the course of 10 days - with long cleaning sessions peppered throughout. Things got lost, and misplaced and many days ended with long arguments. Throughout all of this, my father-in-law decided to kick up drama about an unrelated issue. Really the entire month was a mess, and even after things cleared up and got back to normal, I felt reluctant to post. Have you ever had that feelings of putting something off so long that you became more and more overwhelmed by the thought of doing it? I've been experiencing that, to say the least. I feel like I can't show my face in my Instagram chat groups that I suddenly disappeared from. I'm trying, but the whole social thing feels weird right now.

Anyway, my empties.

OXX Sea Swirl Bath Fizzer
I was in the mood for a fancy bath and didn't want to shell out for a Lush Bath Bomb, so I trotted to Kmart and picked out the OXX Sea Swirl Bath Fizzer. I was neither impressed or disappointed by this bath bomb - it had a light and relaxing oceanic scent and turned my bath water a very pretty aqua hue. While I prefer the overall experience of a more luxe bath bomb, OXX's Sea Swirl would be nice in a pinch.

Kmart Sea Salt Camellia Seed Oil Face Mask*
Just like the bath bomb above, I picked up Kmart's Sea Salt Camellia Seed Oil mask on a whim. I fell in love after the first use. Oily in the best way, this salt and almond oil based mask was intensely hydrating yet clarifying, and left my skin with a beautiful glow. I got around six uses out of the packet, which isn't bad considering it's $3 price point. I've tried a lot of Kmart's masks, and have enjoyed most of them, but the Sea Salt Camellia Seed Oil mask has been the best yet. An almost definite repurchase.

Olay Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Lotion
An old favorite, and an empty from Morgan, Olay's Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Lotion is a great basic moisturizer that just gets the job done. There isn't really anything else to say about this affordable, no-frills product. It just works.

Hey Honey Come Clean Facial Scrub
Hey Honey's Come Clean Facial Scrub was...weird. This scrub had a strange, dense, pasty texture that made it hard to dispense and difficult to spread evenly over the skin. The Come Clean scrub utilized a mixture of salt and sugar granules to exfoliate the skin, but they were pretty sparse in the otherwise greasy base. I only got four uses out of this deluxe sample, and it was enough to decide I didn't like it.

Hask Biotin Thickening Shampoo&Conditioner*^
I love Hask Hair Care so much, and their Biotin Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner are no exception. At first, I didn't feel like I saw results from this caffeine infused duo, but over the four or so months that I used it I noticed less and less hair fall and breakage. I'm using a different set of shampoo and conditioner at the moment, but I'll more than likely return to Hask products when I'm done.

Batiste Mamba Dry Shampoo*
I relied on my monthly can of Batiste Dry Shampoo even more so during those several hectic weeks I described above. Everyone knows how I feel about Batiste's Dry Shampoo formula, but I just want to put it out there that Mamba is one of the best scents I've tried from the brand! Batiste describes this scent as "sassy and fruitful" and I agree - to me it smells like a mix of berries and violet, two of my favorite notes. I'll more than likely repurchase this scent.

Glow Mist changed me. This finish facial spray contained a plethora of beneficial ingredients to nourish and hydrate the skin, all while imparting a beautiful luminosity. I loved Pixi's Glow Mist both as a skincare product, and a makeup finishing spray. I savored the last drops of this mist, and was so sad to see it go. I really miss having Glow Mist in my line up, and intend on repurchasing it soon!

Maybelline Pinking of You Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush
I've been on a multi-month mission to use up this cream blush stick, and it finally happened! I bought Maybelline's Pinking of You Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush several years ago when it was a limited edition release and used it from time to time and enjoyed it's sheer, dewy pink tint, in spite of a flurry of negative reviews. I reached for the Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush on lazy, light makeup days for an effortless, fresh glow. I don't think I'd repurchase any of the new, permanent shades, but I liked this cream blush while it lasted.

I didn't love Soap&Glory's Total Drama Clean Micellar Water. While this makeup remover could get the job done, I've definitely tried better and more affordable micellar waters that didn't sting my eyes. I've repurchased my old favorite Garnier Micellar Water to replace Total Drama Clean. I wouldn't recommend this - or any Soap&Glory skincare really. Stick to their body products, that's where this brand really shines.

I was obsessed with Benefit's Rockateur Blush a few years ago, but I realised that I've hardly reached for it during the last two or so years, so I think it's time to declutter it. Though now that I'm typing it, I'm having second thoughts! I loved Rockateur's subtle warm rosy flush and gentle satin sheen. I need to stop talking about Rockateur before I decide to keep it!

BYS Waterproof Mascara
I'm not sure how I ended up with this tube of BYS Waterproof Mascara, but please let me just say that this is a terrible, terrible product - it reminded me a lot of the Be a Bombshell Mascara I had the misfortune of trying several years ago. The BYS Waterproof Mascara had a dry formula that stunk of petrochemicals and barely adhered to the lashes. No length, no volume, no curl, barely any color, and it flaked off entirely in just a couple hours. Hardly waterproof. Hardly worth $4. An all around awful product.

Doucce Max Lash Volumizer Mascara
I received this mini Doucce Max Lash Volumizer Mascara in an Ipsy Bag and was thoroughly unimpressed. It certainly didn't maximize my lashes - it didn't really do much of anything, honestly. The Max Lash Volumizer added a little length, a little volume, but no lift what so ever. Not for me.

Maybelline Master Fix Wear Boosting Setting Spray*
I never really talked about it, but Maybelline's Master Fix Wear Boosting Setting Spray is the best setting spray I've ever used. Normally I'm skeptical about setting sprays, but this one really locked my makeup in place. Even on the hottest, sunniest Sydney days I could depend on Maybelline's Wear Boosting spray to keep my makeup in place. A definite repurchase.

Dermalogica Clear Start Set
My sister in law gave me with Dermalogica Clear Start Set because she found it drying and irritating...and so did I. The cleanser was stripping, the alcohol laden toner left my skin feeling even more parched, and the 'moisturizer' balled up and rolled right off my skin. I have nothing good to say about this three piece travel sized set. It's really turned me off of Dermalogica products - are their non-Clear Start products better than this?

16 Brand Strawberry Banana Mask Pack x2
I picked these sheet masks up at Mecca when I picked up my quarterly Beauty Loop Box, because I hate to be that bitch that walks up to the counter and asks for my free shit and leaves lmao. Honestly, I didn't think there was anything special about 16 Brand's Strawberry Banana sheet mask, but it wasn't bad either. The mask fit nicely, stayed put, and was lightly hydrating. An average sheet mask that I probably wouldn't repurchase, at least not until my next Beauty Loop.

Products marked with an ^ were sent to me as press samples.
