Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer Review

Murad describes their Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer as "a super-rich, non-greasy, intensely hydrating moisturiser that locks in moisture for 24 hours, leaving skin feeling silky soft and luxuriously hydrated." I tried a sample of this highly praised moisturizer years ago and loved it, and when I was lucky enough to win a Murad product of my choosing, I picked the Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture moisturizer in a heartbeat! This moisturizer costs a steep $130AUD ($75USD) for 50ml (1.7fl oz) of product, making it one of, if not the, most expensive beauty products I've ever tried! Murad does not test on animals. This moisturizer was made in the USA.

The Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer comes in a weighty, oversized plastic jar with a screw on lid that's often quite stubborn to open. The product name is printed on the front of the jar, with a label offering directions for use affixed to the back. A full ingredient list and more extensive product information is included on the (now discarded) box. I can't help but feel a little put off by this moisturizer's packaging, as it's twice the size it needs to be - the well of product is surrounded by a centimeter of clear plastic in all directions, giving illusion of more product than there really is - plus it isn't recyclable! That's a lot of plastic going in the bin.
Murad's Hydro Dynamic moisturizer is a white cream with a gorgeous rich but light and spreadable texture- just a little dab of this moisturizer is needed for a full face and neck application. When I first started using this moisturizer about two months ago, it would cause me a slightly itchy tingle upon application - there was no visible irritation, just the tiniest prickly feeling that would last about twenty minutes. After about two weeks of twice daily use, the itching ceased. I never did figure out what caused that initial reaction - maybe retinol, an ingredient I'm not very accustomed to. Beyond my fortnight of minor itchiness, Murad's Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture was a wonder for my skin! This moisturizer gave me the most soft, plump, radiant, well hydrated skin I've had in a while. I loved adding a drop or two of Borghese' Radiance Oil to my nighttime application to bump up the hydration a little more, while imparting a serious glow for the next morning. Despite this moisturizer's richness, it played well with sunscreen and makeup, never pilling or causing product to slide off.

The base ingredients of Murad's Hydro Dynamic Ultimate moisturizer are surprisingly simple. This moisturizer is made up of a blend of natural and synthetic emollients, with preservative phenoxyethanol placing ninth on the ingredient list - meaning everything else is present in a concentration of 1% or less. Following phenoxyethanol, you'll find moisturizing sunflower, coconut, olive, and avocado oils, soothing ingredients like allantoin, hydrating hyaluronic acid, anti-aging retinol, and multiple peptides. This moisturizer has a lot of power house ingredients, though all of them are in relatively small quantities. Murad's Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer has the added benefit of being fragrance free, though it does smell a little plastic-y in the jar.

Murad's Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Moisturizer is an excellent, though very pricey moisturizer. This moisturizer is very hydrating and softening, and seems like it would suit a very wide range of skin types, from dry to combination - though I don't recommend it for oily or acne prone skins. If you have the budget that accommodates this moisturizer's price point, I would definitely recommend Murad's Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer. Personally, I can't afford to repurchase this moisturizer - and I'm not sure if I would. As much as I like it, I think there are equally good, or better moisturizers on the market for a much more reasonable price - I could get almost three jars of Olay's Regenerist Sculpting Cream for the same price...which is probably the route I would take if I was going to invest that much money in moisturizer. My bottom line is that the Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisturizer is good - if you've been considering picking it up, do it.
