Clinelle Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel Review

Clinelle Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel Review
Clinelle is a Malaysian skincare brand that launched fairly recently here in Australia. I saw this skincare brand all over my Insta feed when it first launched, and of course I was absolutely sucked in by the beautiful blue packaging (so typical of me - I'm absolutely mesmerized by anything blue), so when I found myself in need of a new cleanser, I picked up their Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel, which is currently Priceline exclusive. Clinelle describes this cleanser as "A gentle foamy sulfate-free cleanser that delicately cleanses impurities & excess sebum without over-stripping skin’s natural moisture. Skin feels refreshed, soft & supple." This cleansing gel contains 100ml (3.4 fl oz) and retails for $9.99. Clinelle does not test on animals. This product was made in France.

The Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel comes in an opaque blue squeeze tube with a flip top cap. The front of the bottle lists the product name, a couple claims, and the product's pH level (5.5, btw). The reverse offers a significant amount of information, including directions, a full ingredient list, and some insight on the function of some of the key ingredients. Packaging is functional and aesthetically pleasing, but unfortunately it isn't recyclable. I almost forgot to mention - I think the size of this cleanser's tube is quite misleading! Though it's the same size as many of my other cleanser's tubes, it's only half full - if I hadn't scanned the tube thoroughly before buying, I would've been a little disappointed by the smaller than average 100ml of product.

Clinelle's HydraCalming Cleansing Gel is a viscous, plush, clear gel that glides over the skin - it feels so much more luxe than most gel cleansers I've tried! The texture is incredibly satisfying! This non-foaming cleansing gel rinses quite easily without leaving a film. The Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel is capable of removing some light makeup, but I feel like it performs best as a morning or second cleanse. Though it's marketed as hydrating and refreshing, I don't feel like Clinelle's gel cleanser imparts any moisture into my skin. At the same time, this cleanser isn't stripping or drying in any way. Shall we call it balancing? I guess. Truth be told, like most gel cleansers, the Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel doesn't make a huge impact on the skin.

The Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel has a water based formula with gentle coconut derived cleansing agents, and a whole bunch of texturizing ingredients that don't really pose a problem. Some interesting ingredients pop up in the center of the ingredients list, including antioxidant rich allantoin, algae, and geranium extracts and hydrating senna extract. Following phenoxyethanol (a standard preservative), are a handful of floral extracts including soothing calendula, cornflower, chamomile, and linden flower. Really interesting ingredients! Clinelle's cleanser is fragrance free, but it has a soft and pleasant rosewater scent quite similar to Glossier's Milky Jelly Cleanser.

Clinelle's Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel is quite basic in effect, but still pleasant to use! The texture of this latherless gel cleanser makes this otherwise straightforward face wash a joy to use (at least for me!). I'm nearing the end of my tube, and I don't think I'll be repurchasing the HydraCalm Cleansing Gel simply because I'm addicted to trying new cleansers and can't commit to one (aside from Pacifica's Sea Foam Face Wash, which isn't available in Australia). I will, however, try more from Clinelle - between their reasonable pricing and lovely blue packaging, how could I resist? If you're on the market for a new gel cleanser, Clinelle's Pure Swiss HydraCalm Cleansing Gel is a good, affordable choice!
