Sample Say So: Eve Lom Cleanser Review

Eve Lom Cleanser Review
Eve Lom's Cleanser has been touted as "probably the best cleanser in the world" by Vogue, and is loved by bloggers I respect like ThatGraceGirl, so I was thrilled to receive it in a Mecca Beauty Loop Box! This luxury cleansing balm contains a "signature blend of ingredients that ensures your skin will achieve optimal results in no time at all. Clove oil acts to encourage clear skin and take out redness, eucalyptus oil works to drain away toxins, hops oil tones, Egyptian chamomile softens and soothes and cocoa butter conditions. This innovative combination works together so that skin may appear brighter than ever before, whilst melting away makeup, exfoliating and toning simultaneously." I received a generous 5ml sachet that was bulging with product, and I managed to get six complete uses out of it - enough to form a complete opinion on the product. Eve Lom's Cleanser is sold in four sizes - 20ml ($33), 50ml ($73), 100ml ($103), and 200ml ($159) at Mecca. Eve Lom products are cruelty free and made in England.

This cleanser is typically sold in a white plastic pot with a screw top lid, with a full sized muslin cloth included. My sample came in a cardboard folder that offered a full ingredients and detailed directions on how to properly use this cleanser. A mini muslin cloth was included, and honestly it isn't very nice. The little wash cloth was too small and thin to remove this rich cleanser effectively, so it's been relegated to the rag drawer for cleaning purposes.

The Eve Lom Cleanser is a rich, pasty, slightly chunky balm that melts on contact into a medium weight oil. This cleanser has great slip, gliding effortlessly across the skin. I tested this luxe cleansing balm as a first and second cleanser and found it to be fantastic in both instances! Eve Lom's Cleanser completely melts away even the fussiest mascaras effortlessly. As a second cleanse, this balm leaves my skin soft and glowing. With a splash of warm water, Eve Lom's Cleanser works into a creamy emulsion that rinses easily with a wash cloth, leaving skin beautifully radiant, with no oily residue or blurry vision. My skin absolutely loves this cleansing balm, each of the six uses I got from the packet left me with a fresh, calm, even toned complexion. Despite it's heavy, almost bacon-fat like texture and high mineral oil content, Eve Lom's Cleanser didn't cause any congestion or breakouts while I was using it, or in the following week after I finished my sample.

Eve Lom's Cleanser has a base of mineral oil, two types of lanolin, and cocoa butter. Following the preservative phenoxyethanol is a unique blend of plant oils comprised of clove, hops, chamomile, and eucalyptus. While Eve Lom claims that clove, hops, and eucalyptus are meant to clarify the skin, they're considered quite irritating by most skincare experts. Luckily, they're included in a very minute (>1%) concentration, probably only enough to create the product's signature herbaceous scent.

This cleansing balm completely won my heart. As a first clean, it's exceptionally effective at removing makeup, and as a second clean it creates such a lovely, healthy radiance on my skin. Some may be put off by the mineral oil based formula, either because they're prone to breakouts, or because of the price point - $70+ is a lot of money for a mineral oil based product, let's be real. I can't justify spending such a hefty sum on a cleansing balm, so I wouldn't purchase a full size of Eve Lom's Cleanser, but I thoroughly enjoyed trying it, and recommend it if you skin tolerates mineral oil well and you have a bigger budget for skincare.
