Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturizer Review

Sukin is an affordable green beauty brand that's based in Melbourne, Australia. Started in 2007, the brand aims to provide reasonably priced, carbon neutral, vegan products free from problematic ingredients. My first pick from this environmentally friendly Aussie brand was their Sensitive Facial Moisturizer, which I picked up on a whim, and I've since repurchased twice. Sukin says their "fast-absorbing Sensitive Facial Moisturiser helps deliver essential hydration to delicate skin. Rosehip, Sesame and Jojoba Oils help promote increased moisture levels, leaving skin feeling soothed and nourished. Suitable for normal to sensitive skin types." A bottle of this moisturizer contains 125ml (4.23 fl oz) and retails for $10.95AUD at Priceline, grocery stores, and pharmacies. Sukin is cruelty free and their products are made in Australia.

Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer comes in a dark brown bottle topped with a convenient pump. A lilac label wraps around the bottle, offering a product description, and full ingredient list. Packaging is simple and functional, yet still attractive (and recyclable!).

I grabbed Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer kind of at random while searching for a new moisturizer that was under $10 (it was on offer at the time, and seems to go on sale pretty often - I've never paid full price!). I hoped to like it, of course, but I didn't expect to love it. This white, lightweight lotion is pretty average in consistency and sinks in at an equally average pace. How this moisturizer feels on the skin is a little less ordinary. Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer has a slightly cooling, wet feel once you've worked it into the skin, almost like a gel moisturizer - it's very hydrating, and leaves my skin soft, luminous, and a little plumper. This moisturizer also feels like it really comforts the skin, making it a great pick to settle the skin down after acid exfoliation. My roommate Morgan also swears by it for preventing irritation after shaving - he slathers Sukin's moisturizer on while his skin is still damp, and rarely experiences the kind of razor burn he used to. The Sensitive Facial Moisturizer is a do-it-all moisturizer for me - I use it morning and night, under SPF, before I apply makeup. It's ability to multitask has made it an essential for me.
Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer has a base of water, aloe, sesame seed oil, glycerin, and fatty alcohols (the good kind, don't worry!). Deepy hydrating oils and butters including rosehip, cocoa, shea, jojoba, and avocado are included in plentiful amounts. Soothing ingredients like cucumber, chamomile and vanilla extracts, plus Vitamin E make up the latter end of the ingredient list. Phenoxyethanol and benzyl alcohol are added in as preservatives, both of which are generally deemed non-problematic. Sukin's Sensitive line includes no added fragrance, though the vanilla extract does give this moisturizer a light, sweet scent that doesn't linger.  With such an agreeable ingredient list, I think Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer is appropriate for normal to combo and sensitive skin. This moisturizer maybe isn't the best pick for acneic skin, considering the inclusion of heavy, potentially comedogenic shea butter.

I love Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer! I've purchase this moisturizer three times now, and I can tell you there will be a fourth time for sure. I've been highly skeptical of green beauty for years now - though I like the idea, most of the organic, eco-friendly skincare I've tried has been severely disappointing, but Sukin's Sensitive Facial Moisturizer has helped change my mind. I'm so eager to delve further into this Australian made skincare range, and if you are too, this moisturizer is the perfect place to start.
