Borghese Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish Review

Borghese says their Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish will "keep essential moisture locked into your lips". This lip scrub contains 15ml (.5 fl oz) and sells for $12.50 at the Hydrology website - the brand was formerly available exclusively at Kohl's, but it seems to have pulled out of this department store. Borghese is not cruelty free. This product was made in the USA.

The ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish comes in a simple white squeeze tube with a blue cap. The product name and Borghese logo grace the front of the tube, while directions and a brief list of benefits adorn the back. Removing the cap, you'll find a plastic slant tip applicator with six raised bumps that will supposedly aid in exfoliation, but I don't feel like they do anything. Though I typically like a squeeze tube, I'm not actually a fan of this lip treatment's packaging - it's quite difficult to dispense product - it seems as though there's too much air in the tube, so I have to manipulate the tube a lot to get even a small amount of product out. Packaging is recyclable.

I was very excited when I first received Borghese' Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish, it'd be a long time since I'd owned a proper lip scrub, and hadn't tried many in the past. I couldn't wait to try something different, and truly this product couldn't be more different that a Lush Lip Scrub. When I think of a lip scrub, I think of a gritty, semi-solid product, and that's far from what the Hydrology Lip Polish is. Instead, Borghese' so-called lips scrub is just a thick, clear, glossy balm with one or two sugar granules, if any, suspended in it. There's next to no exfoliating particles in this lip product, so instead of trying to scrub my lips, I simply use it as a moisturizing treatment. This glossy lip balm delivers a nice hit of hydration to my lips, with a high shine finish that lasts about an hour before wearing away. The sudden burst of hydration, partly in thanks to a generous serving of hyaluronic acid, temporarily gives my lips a plumper, fuller, and smoother appearance. Unfortunately, this product's moisturizing ingredients won't slough away flaky, dry skin the way a "lip polish" should. Unless you happen to get a few sugar particles in your application, Borghese' Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish is completely flavorless.

Borghese' Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish has a base of mineral oil and basic thickening ingredients, with sugar featured as the exfoliating agent. The star of the show, moisture loving hyaluronic acid, makes an appearance high on the list, followed by a variety of marine extracts and nourishing oils. Two forms of collagen make their appearance half way through the list, as well as Vitamin E. Nothing else really stands out on this fragrance and alcohol free product's ingredient listing.
Borghese Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish is disappointing, but it isn't useless. While this product completely fails to even provide the means to exfoliate your lips, it does a pretty good job of moisturizing, and it offers a short lived plumping effect - making it a good overnight balm, or even a pre-makeup treatment. Come to think of it, ReStore reminds me a whole lot of Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm, which is a few bucks more expensive, but much more easily available and a little more straightforward about what it can do for you. I wouldn't repurchase, nor would I recommend Borghese' Hydrology ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish - it isn't a lip scrub, nor is it particularly outstanding in anyway.
