NARS Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil Review+Swatches

NARS says their Satin Lip Pencils "dress up lips in statement shades that seduce with rich color bright pigments, while drenching them in decadent moisture. A modern, long wearing vitamin enriched formula in a jumbo pencil format to provide great wear and intense color with a satin finish. Use for lining, all over lip color, or pairing with another lip product." The Satin Lip Pencils are available in sixteen shades, today I'm reviewing Rikugien, which I received as part of my Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift. NARS is cruelty free, and their Satin Lip Pencils are made in the USA.

Packaging for NARS' Satin Lip Pencils is pretty standard - a black wooden pencil with a color matched bade. The NARS logo is printed on the front of the pencil, the shade name can be found on the back. The Satin Lip Pencils need to be sharpened, which is inconvenient, messy, and wasteful. Packaging is not recyclable.
Believe it or not, the Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil is my first NARS product, and I love it! This lip crayon has an excellent, silky texture that helps it apply effortlessly. Rikugien has a soft, moist consistency that makes it very comfortable to wear, but unfortunately that wonderful texture translates into a shorter wear time - Rikugien lasts about two hours on me. This lipstick doesn't transfer, slide, or bleed, it just seems to disappear. Where does it go? It's a mystery I guess. The Satin Lip Pencils have a slight, chemically scent, but no flavor at all.
Rikugien is described as a "rose pink", which isn't quite how I'd explain this color. To me, Rikugien is a rosy nude, this neutral pink has a hair too much tan for me to truly call it a 'rosy' pink. As promised by the name, Rikugien has a shiny, satin finish with minimal silver shimmer. Rikugien has a medium color payoff that doesn't layer.
NARS' Rikugien Satin Lip Pencil is awesome. The color is a beautiful, flattering rose. I love the texture of this jumbo lip crayon, more than just the finish is satiny! I would love to see the Satin Lip Pencils repackaged into a twist up format - its only fair, considering the hefty price tag. Rikugien wa a great foray into NARS, I'm definitely interested in trying more from the brand - I already have a wishlist going!
