NYX Nectar Slim Lip Liner Review+Swatches

NYX says "slim, trim, and never prim, our lip pencils come in a variety of dashing shades - from auburn to orange to traffic stopping red. The buttery, long wearing lip liner formula goes on easily and resists bleeding." NYX offers 56 shades, today I'm writing about Nectar, which was a surprise gift with purchase! The Slim Lip Liner Pencils contain 1 gram (.04oz) and cost just $3.50. NYX is cruelty free. This lip liner was made in Germany.

The Slim Lip Liners are pretty basic - they're just a wooden pencil topped with a black plastic cap. The NYX logo, shade name, and a full ingredient are printed on the pencil in white lettering. The tail end of this lip liner is color coded for easy shade identification. This lip liner sharpens very smoothly to a nice, sharp, precise point!
NYX says their Slim Lip Liners have a buttery texture, and I have to disagree; this pencil is actually kind waxy - but that's not necessarily a bad thing for a lip liner. Despite it's ceraceous texture, Nectar applies quite smoothly, though it can be a little uneven. This shade offers medium pigmentation that can be build up to an extend, but additional layers cause Nectar to get kinda tacky. Nectar offers average wear on it's own, or while topped with a gloss or balm - about two hours or so. Paired with a lipstick, this lip liner will wear much longer, while extending the length of the lipstick's wear as well. I can't really comment on whether or not this liner prevents feathering, as I rarely experience it. NYX Slim Lip Liners have no scent or flavor.
NYX calls Nectar a "light copper". To me, this is a rusty terracotta shade with fine golden shimmer. Nectar's finish is surprisingly metallic for a lip liner, which I prefer to be matte or satin finish. I used to wear a lot of shades like this when I was in my teens, and I forgot how well they suited me! Nectar will work well with a variety of shades, ranging from medium nudes and peaches, to orangey corals, to light browns and bronzes.

Suggested Lipstick Pairings: Soap&Glory Guavarama, City Color Cappuccino

Suggested Lip Gloss Pairings: Benefit Rockateur, Almay Rosy Lipped
I'm not usually a lip liner fan, but I do like NYX Slim Lip Liner in Nectar! This pencil is a bit waxy, but that helps it hold on to any lip color you choose to layer over it. Nectar doesn't offer the best color payoff, but that's ok, it is a lip liner after all. The color it does lay down is gorgeous and interesting, plus it will pair with a wide range of lipsticks. The Slim Lip Liner formula is super impressive, especially for less than five bucks! I definitely recommend this lip liner and would like to try more from the line!
