J.Cat Beauty Red Potion Wonder Lip Paint Review+Swatches

J.Cat Beauty has supposedly duped the blogger favorite OCC Lip Tars with their new Wonder Lip Paints! J.Cat says "for invincible color and impeccable wear, the Wonder Lip Paint serves justice! With the twofold blend of endurance and delivery of intense pigmentation, this will become your heroine of lip colors. Paint your lips to perfection for your day and nighttime adventures!" J.Cat offers seventeen shades (though only a few area available in stores like Ulta and Rite Aid). Today I'm reviewing Red Potion, which I received in my November Ipsy Bag. Each Wonder Lip Paint contains 10ml (.33 fl oz) and sell for just $5. J.Cat is cruelty free. This product was made in China.

J.Cat's Wonder Lip Paints come in clear squeezy tubes. The J.Cat logo and product name are printed on the front of the tube, the ingredients are listed on the back. All lettering is black, making it difficult to see against a dark shade like Red Potion. This liquid lip color has a tapered dispenser that should not be used for application. Packaging is recyclable.
Much liked the famed OCC Lip Tars, J.Cat's Wonder Lip Paints are potently pigmented liquid lip colors that must be applied with care (and a lip brush). Just a little dot of Red Potion is more than enough to coat the lips. I apply this liquid lipstick with Bdellium Tool's 712 Wet/Dry Definer, by first lining the lips, then filling them in with little dab like strokes. This liquid lipstick feels light and fluid on the lips at first, though as it dries down, it starts to feel a little filmy, if you feel me. Red Potion has strong, opaque color payoff, but it can be sheered out if you tap it into the lips with your fingers or blot some off after application. Unfortunately, I don't get the best wear from J.Cat's Wonder Lip Paint. If I'm not talking, or eating, it'll last about three hours; however, this lippie is surprisingly transfer prone, and it will slip out of the lip line and onto the teeth if you don't use a lip liner or primer. Red Potion fades a bit unevenly, but leaves behind a potent stain that lasts another hour or two. J.Cat's Wonder Lip Paint has an artificial peppermint scent and flavor.
Red Potion is a deep, cool, fuchsia red with a satin finish and no shimmer. The residual stain shows up more fuchsia than red.

J.Cat Beauty's Wonder Lip Paint in Red Potion was fun to try. This formula can be tricky to work with, it's easy to over apply - and God help you if you do because it'll be a hot mess. However, is applied correctly, you'll get rich but lightweight color from Red Potion. I wish this gorgeous, wine toned shade wore a little better - it transfers too easily for my taste. I wouldn't call J.Cat's Wonder Lip Paints a true dupe for the OCC Lip Tars, but they're a similar concept. They're an affordable way to try a highly pigmented liquid lip color, and they're available in a wide array of pretty and interesting colors. However, if you're looking for reliable wear, you're better picking up a real deal Lip Tar instead.

  1. I picked this shade up from Ulta myself because I was curious to see if it was a dupe for OCC's Black Dahlia and Red Potion has a slight bit more red to it but other than that they are pretty similar.

    1. Yeah they're definitely in the same color family. I kinda wish Red Potion was as dark as it is in the tube.

  2. Gorgeous color, really, but I think I would rather splurge on something a bit more reliable.. I was actually about to buy some of these out of curiosity, so thank you for this review! I think I'll skip now!

    1. I feel you. Glad I could save you a few bucks.
