NYC Retro Red Ultra Moist Lipwear Review+Swatches

New York Color (NYC) says their Ultra Moist Lipwear Lipsticks "provide a wardrobe of on trend shades" to "make stealing runway looks simple. Built in conditioner creates a creamy, dreamy texture on your lips for an ultra moisturized feel." These affordable lipsticks are available in ten shades, today I'm reviewing Retro Red. Each Ultra Moist Lipwear Lipstick contains 3.4 grams (.11 oz) an sell for just a dollar. NYC claims to be cruelty free, but the brand is owned by Coty, a company with unclear animal testing policy. This lipstick was made in China.

NYC Ultra Moist Lipwear's packaging isn't attractive, nor is it good quality. The black and silver tube is topped with a clear, round cap. The NYC logo is printed on the twist mechanism. The shade name and number can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the tube. My biggest problem with this lipsticks's packaging is that the bullet doesn't twist all the way down into the tube, making it vulnerable to knicks and breaking off. Packaging doesn't seem to be recyclable.
I'm a fan of NYC's Ultra Moist Lipwear Lipsticks - for just a buck they're kinda incredible. Retro Red is one of the creamiest, most pigmented lipsticks I've ever come cross. Application is easy, this lipstick pretty much melts onto the lips. This lipstick is very moisturizing, it feels almost balm like in the amount of hydration it provides. Even after this lipstick is completely worn away, my lips still feel it's moisturizing effects. Retro Red is saturated with color, one pass over the lips lays down more than enough color. Wear can be a little problematic. Because Retro Red is so creamy, it transfers off the lips, and it can tend to slide outside the lip lines - a lip liner is a good idea. The color lasts roughly 2-3 hours on me. Retro Red will stain the lips (and the skin around them if you have some smudging going on). New York Color's Ultra Moist Lipwears have a mild, artificial cherry scent and flavor.
Retro Red is a classic, true red with a slightly cool undertone. This bright red has an ultra shiny cream finish. I find Retro Red a little overwhelming on my fair skin, but its a great basic shade to have on hand - its the perfect pin up red.
NYC's Retro Red Ultra Moist Lipwear is a super moisturizing, very pigmented classic red lipstick. This lipstick has good lasting power, but it does transfer and can slip around. A lip liner really is a must. If you wanna try a red lipstick without spending much money, Retro Red is a great budget option. Personally, I wouldn't repurchase Retro Red, but I do want to try more from the Ultra Moist Lipwear line.

  1. Retro red is totally a rip off of revlon red, same alliteration, same colour, both use the word red, 1/10 do not recommend.
