Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation Review (Light Porcelain)

Rimmel says their Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation has a "feather light, oil free formula with an airy mousse texture that won't feel heavy or greasy. Delivers all day shine control and blends flawlessly for a natural looking matte finish. Minimizes the appearance of pores. The weight is over - shine has met it's matte". Rimmel offers 8 shades - my review features the lightest one, Light Porcelain. The Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation contains the standard 30ml/1 fl oz and sells for around $5. Rimmel is not cruelty free. This foundation was made in England.

The Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation comes in an opaque white and beige squeeze tube with a purple twist cap. Product name, shade, and a purple crown are printed on the front of the tube. A description and full ingredient list can be found on the back. This tube is recyclable. I'm a fan of this foundation's packaging - its functional and sanitary.
Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation has a light, airy, smooth texture. This mousse is best applied with fingers (for lighter coverage) or with a buffing brush (for fuller coverage). I wasn't sure what to expect from a mousse foundation - but I was pleasantly surprised by how nicely Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation blends. However, I've encountered a handful of problems with this foundation. From afar, this foundation gives a pretty, soft focus look, but up close you'll see that it emphasizes every little hair on your face - not flattering to say the least. The Liquid Mousse Foundation doesn't hold powder well, it seems to absorb it and cake up. This foundation oxidizes on me after two hours or so, and I've never managed to make it last for more than five or six hours.
Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation has adjustable coverage - it can provide anywhere between light and heavy, mask like finish, depending on how and how much you apply. Light Porcelain is a good match for me (before it oxidizes). The shade is light enough, but the undertone is a little bit too peachy - but passably so. This foundation has a velvety matte finish that's actually quite pretty.
Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation was promising but disappointing. Packaging is nice. I love the texture of this foundation, its very easy to work with. Wear is all around poor. Coverage is customizable, its certainly the best feature of this affordable foundation. I'll reach for it infrequently, but I won't repurchase Rimmel's Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, nor would I recommend it.

  1. Oh gosh oxidation is a big "no no" for me! I had a MAC foundation that was a combination of too-warm, and oxidized slightly, so I ended up looking like a oompa loompa :P
