Bio Oil Review

Bio Oil is a "specialist moisturizing oil that smooths and tones scars, stretch marks, and uneven skin tone. It is also effective for aging and dehydrated skin." Bio Oil isn't a product I even intended to try, it seems to be heavily marketed towards pregnant women for stretch mark prevention, which definitely isn't a concern of mine. Free Beauty Events sent me a 2 fl oz bottle of Bio Oil in exchange for promoting one of their giveaways. This body oil is available in three sizes; 2 fl oz, 4.2 fl oz, and 6.7 fl oz and retails for between $10-30 depending on the size you buy and where you purchase it. Bio Oil is hypoallergenic, safe for sensitive skin, and appropriate for use on face and body. Bio Oil is not tested on animals. This product was made in South Africa.

My bottle of Bio Oil came in a white cardboard box. Plenty of product information and a full ingredient list are printed on the box in bright orange lettering. Bio Oil comes in a clear plastic bottle topped with a white twist on cap. Removing the cap reveals a small pour spout. The Bio Oil logo can be found on the front of the bottle, directions are offered on the back. All packaging is recyclable.
Bio Oil is a lightweight orange oil made up of a mixture of mineral and natural oils, including sunflower seed, rosemary, lavender, and soy bean oils. I had doubts about Bio Oil, so many people seem to think of it as a miracle product, but really its just a mineral oil based moisturizer. This body oil is thin and not at all greasy. Bio Oil isn't very fast to absorb, it sits on the skin for three to four minutes before it starts to sink in. I don't feel like I can really comment on how well Bio Oil prevents or treats stretch marks. I have some stretch marks left over from puberty and at nearly a decade old they aren't going to fade any further. I've mainly been using Bio Oil to treat my burns from work and can confirm that it does help prevent scaring and lightens fresh scars as well. Bio Oil is also a nice all over body moisturizer, its light yet thoroughly moisturizing, leaving the skin soft with a slight sheen. My only complaint is that I don't really like the way Bio Oil smells, it kinda reminds me of cinnamon, not in the sweet treat way, but like the straight up spice. Not a fan but luckily it doesn't linger.
Bio Oil is a decent moisturizing body oil. Does it prevent stretch marks during pregnancy, or lighten the ones you already have? Sorry, can't tell you. Obviously it will not treat the stretch marks you've had for years. I do recommend using Bio Oil on freshly healed boo boos that you think will scar. I've had good results using this oil on burns. Will I repurchase Bio Oil? No, I don't need it, the half bottle I have will likely last me the rest of my restaurant career.
